Poem: Thicker Skin

In the hallway, down the stairs
There lies my body, I’ve emerged
I’ve entered this place that nobody could
And I see everything so clear

Today is his day, no
His his’ day
And he’s standing there in the light

I’m trying to reach him
Trying to catch him
Trying to grab what he left behind
So far, so honest, alone

In the distance, there’s a shadow
Where the stairs lead down again
I like to think he wanders closer
Hoping he’ll return again

Yet while I wait in silence
Darkness closes in on me
He’s so far in the distance
I’ve stopped feeling my darkened skin
