Poem: Shallow

I was stepping on tiny twigs
that crumbled under my feet.

I was walking on the holy ground
that made me feel vibrations
in my chest.

As I walked along the desert paths,
my mind wandered to places unknown.

As I travelled the depths of the ocean,
the fish were swimming around
and seaweed was floating about.

While searching the underground caves
for treasure, my torch I held steady
gave me safety and light.

Reality is, all these dreams I had,
they’re what truly puts me apart
from the world, and the lives,
and the people around me,
where deep inside I am truly content,
but the outside is dull,
and dark,
and shallow.
